African Figurine Box

Bossons probably used all this same boxes for all their African pieces. Box thickness is flimsy. They may have put both pieces and box inside another sturdier box when selling. The photo with the African Family pictured is the top view of the box. The animals are all around the sides

'African in Boat'

'African Drummer'

There are two other model produced for the African Group which were probably experimental models. These were 'African in Boat' which measure approximately 6 to 7 inches and is of an African man in his boat. The second model is of an African man with a with drum (African Drummer). Both of these model are probably experimental so very few example exist

To the right is African Drummer.

There is speculation that Bossons made four experimental examples of this rare piece (in black colour).

The Drummer stands 10" high and 4 1/2" at the widest portion of the base. This piece is fired porcelain with Ivory Black and Gold leaf paint under glaze. Notice small Bossons sticker attached under base.

Candlestick Holders

There is some confusion over the origins of these candlestick holders. They possibly came to Bossons with a view to them being copied, and there is a suggestion that they were special commissions with a unique ID. Whether these examples were made by Bossons or not is unclear. The AMS stamp could be where they originated, or could be for who they are being made? The stamp on the base of example 3 suggests US voltage which again adds more confusion. There were at least 7 of these candlestick holders, 3 are currently in the UK and 4no in the USA. The holders are probably dated around the 1960s

Pottery  version. Note - The Pottery versions have a black back.

"Vintage Automobile Plaques". The first Vintage Automobile Plaques were Pottery products but when the Bossons pottery was discontinued these plaques were made of gypsum. Pottery examples were produced from 1959 to 1962 and gypsum from 1962 to 1963. The gypsum versions are rarer and usually have a painted rim. There are some very rare gypsum examples that do not have a painted rim. All plaques are 13 x 11.5 inches.
