International Bossons Collectors Society (IBCS)
| IBCS European Meeting – 7th August 2010
Thanks go out to Val and Martin Chapman for arranging another very successful event which was certainly enjoyed by all who attended. We had another good turnout of lovely Bossons paintresses some of which brought their Bossons pieces which had been sitting in their attics for many years and needless to say the bartering began.
Julia Davenport from ‘Congleton Museum’ holding the Flowers Plaque, Dennis Lince holding the Galleon Plaque and paintresses Sandra Wootton holding the Lyre Clock Proceedings started with the group photograph outside of the famous Lion & Swan pub followed by an auction, there were tables with items for sale, visits to Congleton Museum and to the ‘Brook Mills’ Bossons Factory. One of the highlights of the meeting was a live demonstration of how to paint a Bossons from start to finish which was carried out by Cynthia Charlesworth who was one of the senior paintresses at the Bossons Factory.
Nice smiles from Val Chapman and Ruth Phipps as they manage visitor desk
Paintresses Phyllis Brightwell (left) Cynthia Charlesworth (right) prepare for the Bossons painting demonstration. The unpainted model was kindly supplied by Martyn Chapman. We have a full video of this demonstration which we hope to get onto the internet via “YouTube”.
These are the colours that were always used for the face flesh, mixed in a watery application using 4 parts ‘Vandyke Brown’ to 1 part ‘Burnt Sienna’ and add a small amount of white for the touching up of Bossons.
Bossons for sale from Jobie with Ruth Vicchio inspecting the goodies
Steve Clements adjusts his table. Steve is also one of the top Legend experts in the UK.
How about this for a rare one, the ‘Galleon Panel’ as show on page 174 of ‘book 1’ which was being sold by one of the paintresses.
Vic Vicchio stands next to one of the original Bossons Factory sign which now resides in Congleton Museum. Vic and his lovely wife Ruth flew in all the way from Houston, Texas.
More very rare items being sold by paintresses. Fraser Art wall mirrors some of which are almost unique.
And the garden gnomes make a welcomed visit.
A very unusual ‘Palomino’ Pony which appeared at the meeting
Outside of the Lion & Swan pub. Take a close look at this photograph for some more very rear pieces.
